Welcome to Jelks England’s very first blog post. We hope you are enjoying your summer so far and spending time with your family and/or friends and/or pets as much as you can.

Let us quickly introducing ourselves. Jelks England is an independent furniture maker who specialises in designing and crafting made to order pieces. We believe in traditionally made, ethically sourced products that challenge our throw-away society.

This blog will hopefully convey to you our appreciation of your support for Jelks England and our mission to bring useful and inspiring content.

Beauty is found all around us (never forget that) so inspiration for content is limitless. But for us to narrow down and refine our content there will be much experimentation used on this forum, which is inevitable for a new brand, so please bear with us or better yet come with us on this journey of self-discovery.

To start, we thought it would be nice to treat you with an appetiser (literally!) Below is our recipe for Honey-Soy Pastry Sticks. Simple, easy and de lish us! Great for a snack or to serve guests with predrinks. Please enjoy and we hope to see you again next post.

Honey-Soy Pastry Sticks

  • 1 sheet puff pastry

  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • Sesame seeds

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C/fan or 200°C/gas and line a baking tray with greaseproof baking paper.

  2. Mix together the dark soy sauce and honey to form a glaze.

  3. Roll out the pastry and spread the glaze over one half of the sheet.

  4. Fold the sheet over and press together lightly then put the sheet back into the fridge for another 10 minutes.

  5. Cut the sheet into 1cm strips. Twist each strip to your hearts content and place on the baking tray.

  6. Lightly glaze the top of each pastry strip and sprinkle on sesame seeds.

  7. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until golden. Easy peasy!
